MARK BELANGER
This collectible baseball card is signed by the Orioles shortstop in blue ink
Trading Card signed: "Mark Belanger". Color, 2½x3½. No.253. © T.C.G. On verso is a
short summary of his career and individual season batting records through 1972. An 8-time
Gold Glove winner, Mark Belanger (1944-1998) played shortstop for the Baltimore
Orioles (1968-1981) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1982). Although not an outstanding hitter,
he was at the core of a great series of Orioles teams, playing in 43 postseason games. He won a
World Series ring with the Orioles in 1970. The Orioles did not resign him after the 1981
season, allegedly because of the criticism he directed towards team manager Earl Weaver. A
longtime player representative, he was hired by the Major League Baseball Players'
Association after retiring in 1982. At the shortstop position, he set a few franchise records
with the O's, although Cal Ripken Jr. later broke all of them. Fine condition.
