MARK LUPINO The comedian, vaudeville performer, and actor native to London signed this 3½x5¼ black and white photograph featuring him with his back to the camera turning around in a humorous pose Photograph Signed: “Mark Lupino/Hello America/1920” in black ink. 3½x5¼. B/w. The Lupinos were British dancers, comedians, stage actors and actresses, and travelling theater performers. They are split into two branches; the original Lupino family goes back to the early 17th Century and stretches over 200 years until Samuel George Lupino's death in 1830. The second branch's patriarch is actually not related by blood and was begun by performer George Hook, who worked with the Lupino family and changed his last name to Lupino. George Hook Lupino had 16 children, most of whom were performers of some kind. Contemporary performers from the family include Ida Lupino (1918-1995) and Lupino Lane (1892-1959). Mark Lupino (1889-1930) was a member of the Lupino family of British theater performers. Mark Lupino was Hook Lupino's grandson by his oldest son George. He came to the United States and appeared on the screen in a few different roles, most notably The King's Highway (1927). Mounting remnants on verso. Note in bottom left corner in unknown hand. Worn.
