Small b/w bust photo of a scruffy Mark Morris in a corduroy shirt, signed "w/love"
Inscribed photograph signed "for Harry Morgan/w/love,/Mark Morris". B/w, 5x6¾ overall, 4½x5¼ image, one surface. Dancing is probably the last job you'd guess for a meaty 6-foot-2 guy like Morris, born in Seattle, Washington in 1956. Despite his bulk, Morris is a dancer, choreographer and director who was a professional performer by 11. He's worked with such dance stars as Mikhail Baryshnikov and is known for his innovative and, at times, controversial works. Morris has created seven works for the San Francisco Ballet since 1994 and has worked with other ballet companies as well. His works include Gloria (1981), set to Vivaldi; Championship Wrestling (1985); The Hard Nut (1991), his version of The Nutcracker set in the 1960s; and the modern dance pieces Grand Duo (1993), V (2002) and All Fours (2004). He also directed and choreographed Paul Simon's Broadway musical The Capeman (1998), based on Salvador Agron, who killed two teenagers in a 1959 gang fight. Lightly toned and bowed, otherwise in fine condition.
