Color, 3¼x5½. American actor, artist and author Mark Slade (b. 1939) is
best known for his starring role as Billy Blue Cannon in the western television
series The High Chaparral (1967-1970). Slade began his career on
Broadway in the play The Was a Little Girl (1960) alongside Jane
Fonda, and soon earned a role in the film Splendor in the Grass
(1961), and after which he moved to Los Angeles and starred as Seaman Jimmy
"Red" Smith in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961) as well as
the following television series of the same name. Slade had many more film
and television appearances until he was cast in his most memorable role on The
High Chaparral; he continued to work until the early 1990s, and by the time of
his acting retirement he had appeared in over three-hundred stage, screen, and
television productions. Slade also works as an artist of political cartons,
caricatures and comic strips which have appeared in newspapers and magazines all
over the world; furthermore he has worked as a screenwriter and wrote the novel
"Going Down Maine" (2012). Irregularly cut. Light surface creases.
