MARLENE DIETRICH Oscar-nominated actress Marlene Dietrich signed this document in 1955 to modify a contract that she had with Columbia Records. Document signed "Marlene Dietrich" in blue ink and an Executive Vice President of Columbia Records in black ink. 1 page, 8¼x10¾, two binder holes at top edge, on Columbia Records letterhead. Dated "As of August 15, 1955". Addressed to Miss Marlene Dietrich, New York City. Dietrich signed this document to modify an unspecified contract. It added a paragraph regarding royalties from records sold through the Columbia LP Record Club. In 1957, Dietrich starred in The Monte Carlo Story and Witness for the Prosecution. Dietrich (1901-1992, born Maria Magdalena Dietrich in Schöneberg bei Berlin, Germany) was already known in Europe as a singer and live performer when she achieved film stardom in two 1930 releases: The Blue Angel and Morocco (Academy Award nomination for Best Actress). Paramount's answer to MGM's Greta Garbo, Dietrich was for a time in the 1930s the world's most highly paid actress. Her films were later banned by the Nazis in her native Germany, and she played a key role in U. S. wartime efforts, singing her hit Lilli Marlene on many USO tours. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Light tears at top and right edge. Light nick at right edge. Missing top corners. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Previously authenticated by JSA.
