MARSHALL P. WILDER
The actor signs with the sentiment "Merrily Yours".
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Merrily Yours/Marshall P. Wilder/Rochester, N.Y., Feb. 17/98", 5x2½. Marshall Pinckney Wilder (1859-1915), a gifted storyteller from his youth, specialized in humorous monologues. Starting out as an entertainer at private parties, he was soon performing on stage. He was a favorite of the British Royal Family, and especially of the future King Edward VII, who witnessed nearly 20 of his performances. His dwarfism did not hinder his career, but he always resisted novelty propositions from P. T. Barnum and others in favor of legitimate stage work. He appeared in silent films from 1897, and made some sound recordings. Wilder, who always signed "Merrily Yours", was the grand-nephew of noted horticulturalist Marshall P. Wilder. Slightly soiled. Irregularly cut. Corners lightly worn. Toned. Fine condition.
