Typed contract signed "Martha Raye" in red ink. With pencil notations in upper right corner in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x11. Feb. 23, 1961. Countersigned: "Harvey B. Sindle/Asst. Secretary" of Roncom Productions. To Roncom Productions, Inc. In part: "Heretofore and under date of February 6, 1961, we entered into an Agreement with Rider attached thereto calling for a rendition of my services on the Perry Como Show scheduled to be pre-recorded March 17, 1961 for broadcast March 22, 1961...the billing provided for by said Rider shall only be afforded me on the program in the event any other performer receives visual billing on said program...." In letter form, agreed to by Roncom Productions. Roncom is Perry Como's production company. The Perry Como Show was televised on NBC from 1955-1959 when it became the Kraft Music Hall (1959-1963) hosted by Como. Singer, actress and comedienne Raye (1916-1994, born in Butte, Montana) had hosted her own show on television, The Martha Raye Show (1954-1956). She made her Broadway debut in 1934 and her first film in 1936. A tireless performer for American troops in three wars, billing herself as "Colonel Maggie", she was honored with the Academy of Motion Pictures' Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award (1968) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1993). She was buried in the military cemetery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Lightly toned and creased. Discolored on right and top edge. Paper clip impressions and stains at upper margin. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
