MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS and THE PLATTERS Both The Platters and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas sign a group of album pages Autograph Note signed: "To Paul/ Love & God/ Bless/ Martha/ '89'", "Luck/& Love/ Rosalind/ Vandella/ 89", "Best to you/ Always/ Annette Sterling/ 'Vandellas'/ 89","Herb Reed/ The Platters", "Billie Cox/ Platters" and 6 unidentified signers, in various inks, 2p (front and verso), 8¼x5¼. After backing Marvin Gaye on his 1962 hit "Stubborn Kind of Fellow", the Del-Phis (Detroit natives MARTHA REEVES, ANNETTE BEARD, and ROSALIND ASHFORD) renamed their trio Martha & the Vandellas, taking inspiration from Detroit's Van Dyke Street and Reeves' heroine Della Reese. In 1963, they recorded the first Martha & the Vandellas' record, "I'll Have to Let Him Go". In 1989, the trio successfully sued Motown for back royalties and occasionally reunited for performances in the 1990s. Their hits include: "Come and Get These Memories" (1963), "Dancing in the Street" (1964) and "Quicksand" (1964). Martha & the Vandellas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Founding member of The Platters, HERB REED (1928-2012), was the last surviving member of the group, which was wildly popular during the 1950s and 1960s. The group's hits include "The Great Pretender", "Twilight Time", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", and "My Prayer". BILLIE COX performed with Herb Reed and the original Platters for years. Lightly toned at edges. Lightly frayed at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
