MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS (MARTHA REEVES) The Motown singer who is a member of the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame signed this index card Autograph Note Signed: "To/ Joe/ Love's God/ Bless/ Martha Reeves/ '92/ Vandella". 6x4 index card. Signed in 1992. Martha Reeves (b. 1948) began singing as a child in her grandfather's church in Detroit, Michigan. When her voice coach, Abraham Silver - who worked with the Supremes - encouraged her to follow through with her talents, Reeves took up jazz and blues singing jobs in nightclubs, eventually coming across Motown's A&R director Mickey Stevenson. Stevenson signed Reeves and her groupmates to Motown after they provided backup vocals to Marvin Gaye's hit song, "Stubborn Kind of Fellow," and from there the band flourished. The Vandellas are the singers of over a dozen hits, most famously "Dancing in the Street" (1964) which reached number 2 on the Billboard top 100. Taking a break from her music career, Reeves served on the City Council of Detroit from 2005-2009. She currently tours the US and England as a solo artist. In 2013, she was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
