Theatre World Award-winning actress sends editor John Willis an update on her California activities

For the first time in four years, I was home in California with my family for the holidays and consequently have let everything else slip...including correspondence! Unless some marvelous television producer magically "discovers" my talents, I will be returning to New York on March 1st. When I return, I hope to pay you a visit, and receive my statuette...both which I look forward to eagerly. The Theatre World Award means a great deal to me...great encouragement in a time when I most need it. No matter how hard I try to prepare myself for the "hills and Valleys" of our business, the "valleys" are still hard to take. Thank you for your kind letters ad lovely holiday card. I hope we can have a long chat when I return to reclaim New York City!! Fondly". Actress Marti Rolph has appeared in various stage productions both on and off Broadway. Most notably, she appeared in the original Broadway production of Follies in 1971, and later appeared Good News (1974). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Ink in right margin smeared and shows through on verso.
