Tupper wrote this postcard to Thomas Gibbons, Esq. in 1884, asking for details on when he would arrive during a trip. Accompanied by 1-page biography.
Autograph letter signed: "M. F. T.". With ink notation in lower right corner in unknown hand. 2¾x4¾ English halfpenny postcard. March 19, 1884. Addressed to Thomas Gibbons, Esq., Liverpool, England. In full: "Tell me how you are & when going over: and mind you come here before departure, write & say when you will call: day & hour. I hope Mr. Adams has by this time sent you those pages all well here [illegible]". Accompanied by: 1-page biography. Tupper (1810-1889, born in Albury, Surrey, England) was an English writer, playwright, poet and inventor. He's probably best known for Proverbial Philosophy, published in 1837. Filled with long moralizing proverbs written in blank verse, Proverbial Philosophy eventually went through 40 editions and sold over a million copies in America between 1837 and 1867. Lightly toned and soiled. Ink transference from biography. Rounded corners. Normal postal stamps, none of which touch handwriting. Otherwise, fine condition.
