affixed to a 4x2 piece of cardstock
Clipped signature: "Martin F. Tupper". 3½x1 paper affixed to 4½x1¾
piece of cardstock. Tupper (1810-1889, born in Albury, Surrey, England)
was an English writer, playwright, poet and inventor. He's probably best known
for Proverbial Philosophy, published in 1837. Filled with long
moralizing proverbs written in blank verse, Proverbial Philosophy
eventually went through 40 editions and sold over a million copies in America
between 1837 and 1867. Lightly toned and creased. Signature was folded twice
and unfolded. Signature and mounting card have irregular edges. Otherwise in
fine condition.
