to the United States in 2003 to work in California, and while working in a
deli, was introduced to former Jockey Mark Hanna, who helped establish his
interest in horse riding. His first win came in 2005, only being the jockey's
third race in his career. He has since had a strong career of wins, winning
events and races such as California Breeders' Cup Oaks (2006), Senorita
Stakes (2008), Southwest Stakes (2010), Haskell Invitational (2010), Preakness
Stakes (2010), and Kentucky Oaks (2011). In his career, Garcia has had 1,180
