MARTIN LANDAU The actor seen in Hitchcock's North by Northwest signed this document Carbon Partly Printed DS: "Martin Landau" in ink as Performer and initialed "ML" in two places on attached rider, 2p, 8½x12¾, front and verso, with attached rider, 2p, 8½x11, separate sheets. Beverly Hills, California, 1969 January 20. Headed: "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract". Landau contracts with WIAAW Productions, Hollywood, to appear on What's It All About, World?" The final taping of his performance, for which Landau was to be paid $7,500, was to take place on February 2, 1969; the show's scheduled air date was February 6, 1969. Rehearsals were to commence on January 29, 1969, with a notation made that such would be subject to Landau's commitments to his hit TV series, Mission Impossible. Also signed by a Producer from WIAAW Productions. The rider, which details compensation for replays, is initialed only by Landau. Landau appeared as himself in the first episode of the first season of the TV sitcom, What's It All About, World?, which aired on February 6, 1969. In the year he signed this contact, Landau was nominated for the third of his three Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series Emmy Awards (1967, 1968 and 1969) for his role as Rollin Hand (1966-1969) on the CBS TV series, Mission Impossible, which aired from 1966-1973. Landau and his wife, Barbara Baines, to whom he was married from 1957-1993, co-starred on both Mission Impossible (both left in 1969, the year of this document) and What's It All About World? They would later co-star together as Commander John Koenig and Dr. Helena Russell in the futuristic TV series, Space: 1999 (1975-1977). MARTIN LANDAU (1928-2017) was a cartoonist and illustrator before making his off-Broadway stage debut in 1951. For his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood (1994), he won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Other film credits include North by Northwest (1959), Cleopatra (1963), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), and Rounders (1998). Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Nicked at lower blank edge of first page, stapled at upper left corners. Rust paper clip stain on verso of last page of rider. Otherwise, fine condition.
