cinema during the 1970s and '80s. A consummate storyteller and visual
stylist who lived and breathed movies, he won fame translating his passion and
energy into a brand of filmmaking that crackled with kinetic excitement. In
addition to the numerous awards from the Director's Guild of America, Golden
Globes and various Film Festivals and Critics Circles, Scorsese won an Oscar
for Best Achievement in Directing for The Departed (2006) and has
been nominated for an Academy Award six times for Best Director for Raging
Bull (1980), The Last Temptation of Christ (1989), Goodfellas
(1991), Gangs of New York (2002) and The Aviator (29004) and twice
for Best Adapted Screenplay for Goodfellas and The Age of Innocence
