MARTIN SHEEN and LARRY ADLER
The actor and harmonica player sign opposite sides of an album leaf.
Signature: "Martin Sheen", 6¼x3¾ album leaf. Also signed on verso: "Larry Adler". Ink captions (unknown hand) above both signatures. Actor MARTIN SHEEN has appeared in a wide variety of films, most notably Apocalypse Now (1979), Gandhi (1982), Wall Street (1987), The American President (1995) and Monument Ave. (1998). He won an Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Murphy Brown, 1994) and has won a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild awards for his role as President Josiah Bartlett on the TV series The West Wing (1999-2007). Sheen is the father of actors Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Ramon Estevez and Renee Estevez. LARRY ADLER (1914-2001) was widely acknowledged as the world's best harmonica player, bringing new credibility to the instrument. Starting humbly in vaudeville, Adler moved on to movie roles, beginning with Many Happy Returns (1934). He entertained troops during World War II. Adler performed works by Bach and Vivaldi. He even inspired works to be written for his instrument by major composers, Vaughan Williams and others. On his 80th birthday, he released an album of songs by George Gershwin. Adler was unfairly blacklisted in the US during the McCarthy era, but attracted a large following in Europe. Reportedly, his fan club numbered 300,000 members! Ink of Sheen's signature has bled slightly. Irregular left edge from removal from a bound book. Lightly toned at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
