The British screenwriter and actor signs his name on this card, along with Zeidler, a stage performer
Signature(s): "Martin Starkie" in black ink and on verso: "Marjorie Zeidler" in black ink. 5½x3½. Martin Starkie (1922-2010) was an English actor, writer and director for theatre, radio and television. Starkie studied at Exeter College, Oxford. In 1946 he founded the Oxford University Poetry Society, and with Roy McNab edited the Oxford Poetry magazine in 1947. The Poetry Society administers the annual Martin Starkie Prize in his honor. He made his name in the BBC's The Third Programme and on Sunday Night Theatre in the 1950s. He had acting roles in feature films as well. Later Starkie worked with Nevill Coghill and composers Richard Hill and John Hawkins, and also produced and directed the TV show, Canterbury Tales, based on Nevill Coghill's translation, first in Oxford, then in the West End, on Broadway and in Australia. Marjorie Zeidler was a stage actress in the early 1950's. Actress merits further research. Toned. Irregular cut edges. Newspaper clipping affixed to front. Otherwise, fine condition.
