45 RPM seven inch single with In Dreams and Hard to Find, Easy to Lose, signed by teen idol Marty Wilde
Record signed "Marty/Wilde" on the label. 6¾-diameter record with color label, in a 7¼x7 black paper sleeve. 45 RPM single with Roy Orbison's In Dreams on the A side and Hard to Find, Easy to Lose on the B side, both performed by Wilde. ©1982 Kaleidoscope Records Ltd. British musician Wilde, born Reginald Leonard Smith in 1939, came to London at the beginning of the rock and roll explosion in England. He was 17 years old and performing for a pound and a meal a night at the Condor Club when he met promoter Larry Parnes. Parnes changed Smith's name to Marty Wilde and, until the end of the 1950s, he and his band the Wild Cats managed to compete against heavyweights like Tommy Steele and Cliff Richard. Wilde was a teen idol but had a dark and more brooding voice; it served him well on his 1958 hit Bad Boy, which even broke into the Top 50 in the United States and has been since been covered by Nirvana and rockabilly singer Robert Gordon. But Wilde's teen idol cred sank after he married Joyce Baker of the Vernons Girls in 1959, and Liverpool's Mersey Beat made him yesterday's flavor by 1963. During his time in the sun, though, Wilde charted 11 singles in England between 1958 and 1962, including five Top 10 hits. He continued to record, but found greater success as a composer for other artists. His daughter is singer Kim Wilde. Record is lightly scratched. Sleeve is lightly creased. Otherwise in fine condition.
