MARV FOLEY
The former Major League catcher signs with the Fort Myers Sun Sox of
the Senior Professional Baseball Association for the 1990 season, the league's
last
Contract signed: "Marvis Foley", 8 pages, 8½x11. Sarasota,
Florida, 1990 August 4. Contract between the Fort Myers Sun Sox of the
Senior Professional Baseball Association, and player Foley for the 1990-1991
season. Also signed by a club representative, on July 13. Marvis "Marv" Foley
(b. 1953) was a Major League reserve catcher over 5 seasons with the
Chicago White Sox (1978-1980, 1982) and Texas Rangers (1984). He was hitting
.321 for the Sun Sox when the SPBA, a winter league for players age 34 and over,
ceased operations in December 1990. Foley is the only person to have managed
a championship team in all three AAA leagues (highest in the minors): the
American Association, the International League and the Pacific Coast League.
Since the American Association has been folded into the IL and PCL, this
record is not going to be matched any time soon. Since 2006, Foley has been
catching coordinator for the Colorado Rockies' minor league system. Staple at
top left corner. Edges lightly frayed. Corners creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
