MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER. Photograph signed: "Marvelous/Marvin/Hagler/Champion". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x6½ (one surface). Imprinted caption affixed to verso. In full: "LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 - SOUTHLAND STOP - Marvin Hagler, left, and Thomas Hearns flank promoter Bob Arum Thursday during a press conference in Los Angeles promoting their upcoming April 15 title bout at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. (AP Laserphoto) 1985". Marvin Hagler (born in 1954) began his boxing career in 1973. On his second attempt in 1980, he gained the WBC Middleweight title from Great Britain's Alan Minter in a three-found bout in London (the British audience hurled bottles and showed disrespect toward the new champion). To aid his cause and enhance his image, the boxer legally adopted the name, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, in 1982. Known for his shaved head, ambidextrous punches and clever boxing style, Hagler was considered one of the best 1984 pugilistic champions. He defended his title in 1981 and reigned undisputed World Middleweight Champion through 1987, when he retired. Hagler's career professional record was 63-3-2, with 52 knockouts! Hagler was inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Fine condition.
