MARY BOLAND
Large 10x12¾ b/w photo by William Walling, Jr. of actress Mary Boland
with her chin resting on her hands, signed "Sincerely"
Inscribed photograph signed "To/Kathryn Cragen/Sincerely/Mary
Boland" in blue ink. Orange pencil notation on verso in unknown hand. B/w,

and Paramount, with photo credit stamp on verso in purple ink. Boland
(1880-1965, born Marie Anne Boland in Detroit, Michigan) made 11 Broadway
appearances, starting in 1907, before making her first film in 1915.
Dissatisfied with the acting possibilities of silent movies, she returned
full-time to the stage in 1920. Her biggest stage success was in The
Cradle Snatchers (1925-1926) as a woman who left her husband for a young
lover: acting newcomer Humphrey Bogart! Returning to films in character
roles after 1930, she found success in Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), The
Woman (1939) and Pride and Prejudice (1940). Lightly toned, chipped,
creased and bowed. Light tears at bottom corners. Light paper loss in bottom
left corner. Signature has low contrast in places but is legible. Lightly worn
and rounded corners. Light scratches (not visible head-on) and impressions on
image. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise in fine condition.
