Handwritten, signed letter from the screenwriter and author saying
how pleased she is her autograph is desired, and that the recipient must have a
"valiant spirit" for continuing to be interested in fiction. Extremely
rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Mary C. McCall, Jr.", in black ink,
8½x11. Written on personal letterhead, with printed signature at top. January
17, 1934. In part: "Dear Mr Bahrer: I am very pleased that you want my
autograph to add to your collection. You must have a valiant spirit to keep up
your interest in fiction and the people who write fiction, in spite of the heavy
burden your illness has put upon you". Mary C. McCall, Jr.
(1904-1986) was best known as a screenwriter, first entering the film
industry with Warner Bros. pictures in 1932. Her first assignment was helping to
write the screenplay for Scarlet Dawn, based on her own novel, revolt.
Other films McCall has written for include The Secret Bride (1934),
Craig's Wife (1936), and The Fighting Sullivans (1944). By the
1950's, she had begun writing for television, writing for The
Millionaire (1955) and The Ford Television Theatre (1956).
Outside of television and film, McCall had works published in
Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and Collier's. Normal mailing
folds. Light surface creases. Heavily toned, esp. on right margin. Small tear to
top edge. Corners lightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
