MARY CARR and DICKIE MOORE
Pink album leaf signed by the two popular actors
Autograph Note Signed: "To Mabelle-/Best of luck/Sincerely/Mary Carr" and "To Mabelle/ love./ Dickie Moore." 5¾x4¼. Mary Carr (1874-1973, born Mary Kennevan in Germantown, Pennsylvania) was an American actress with over 140 movie credits between 1915 and 1956. She's probably best known for her roles as kindly mothers and grandmothers, especially as the title character in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1919) and as Ma Benton in Over the Hill to the Poorhouse (1920), two of her first roles. She was a frequent star, but her leading roles dried up after 1933's Police Call, and many of her roles were uncredited in the later years of her career. Dickie Moore (1925-2015) was a child film star in the 1930s, playing the title role in Oliver Twist (1932) and appearing in several Our Gang comedies. Although he had the honor of bestowing the first screen kiss on the 14-year-old Shirley Temple in Miss Annie Rooney (1942), Moore, who made his acting debut at the age of 18 months, found few adult roles. His last lead part was in Jive Junction (1943). Moore retired from film acting in the mid-1950s, first serving as the first public relations director of Actors Equity (from 1957) before forming his own public relations firm, Dick Moore Associates. Moore also produced his own industrial shows. Moore, who has taught, wrote, directed, and appeared occasionally on stage after his "retirement", has written a book, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, (but Don't Have Sex or Take the Car) (1984), about the tribulations of child stardom. He married actress Jane Powell, his third wife, in 1988. Lightly toned and stained. Leaf has been torn from album on one side. Otherwise, fine condition.
