captioned "Maria Curtis-Verna". American soprano, Mary Curtis-Verna
(1921-2009) was born in Salem, Massachusetts but studied in Italy - married her
teacher Ettore Verna, and made her operatic debut at Teatro Lirico in Milan
(1949). After many appearances in Italy and guest appearances at the Munich
State Opera, she returned to the United States. Her American debut was in 1952,
first in Philadelphia and then at the San Francisco Opera as Aida. In 1954, she
hit the stage at the New York City Opera and then the Metropolitan Opera.
Touring other cities such as Cincinnati and Baltimore, she also appeared in
Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colon. Corners creased and worn. Lightly toned at
edges on verso. Poor contrast but very readable. Otherwise, fine
condition.
