MARY FULLER Rare printed 3¼x5¼ sepia photograph of the silent film actress! Photograph signed: "Mary Fuller" in black ink, b/w, 3¼x5¼. Facsimile signature printed beneath penned signature. Mary Fuller (1888-1973) was a silent film star who appeared in hundreds of shorts and features. Following a brief stint with the Lyceum Stock Company in Toledo, Ohio, Fuller decided to pursue an acting career. After spending a couple of years doing live theatre, Fuller signed with Vitagraph Studios and began appearing in film shorts. A dynamic screen presence, by 1914 Fuller's popularity had reached its apex. A few of the feature-length films in which she appeared include The Active Life of Dolly of the Dailies (1914), The Huntress of Men (1916), and The Long Trail (1917). Somewhat unexpectedly, Fuller's career ended abruptly when her contract with Universal expired in 1917. Shut out of the film industry, Fuller tried to work on Broadway, but her interest was met with little enthusiasm. Fuller went on to experience several disappointing turns of events in her personal life and she eventually suffered two separate nervous breakdowns. She was institutionalized at St. Elizabeths Hospital, where she resided until her death. Pin holes near top edge at center. Centralized crease extending downward from top edge. Heavily toned. Rounded corners. Edges worn. Several stains along margins. Pencil note in an unknown hand on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
