Mary Higgins Clark (1927-2020) began her career in the advertising division of
Remington-Rand writing catalog copy and modeling for the company brochures. Then,
inspired to see the world, she worked as a stewardess for PanAm international, traveling
through Europe, Africa and Asia. In 1949 she was on the last flight allowed into
Czechoslovakia before the fall of the Iron Curtain. After a year of flying, she married
Warren Clark and went back to school to write. She sold her first magazine short story in
1956 and continued until the late 1960s. In 1975 her first suspense novel, Where Are the
Children? was published, with the paperback rights netting her $100,000. Since then she
has written some forty plus novels - 24 international best sellers. To highlighting her
career in the 1990s, she signed a $64 million 4 book contract. At the 55th Annual Edgar
Allan Poe Awards, Clark was inducted as a Grand Master. A devout Catholic, she was
made a Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by the Pope and has been awarded the
Graymoor Award (1999) by the Franciscan Friars. Fine condition.
