MARY MON TOY. Autograph Letter signed: "Mary/Mon/Toy", 1 p, 7¼x10½. On personal letterhead with her photo (b/w, 1½x2) imprinted at upper right. No place, 1985 January 10. To Todd M. Axelrod, American Museum of Historical Documents, Las Vegas, Nevada. In full: "I am honored to be included in the museum's collection and hope the highlights of my career will be of interest. My LV debut was in the late Lou Walters (Barbara's father) 'Revue a la Folies Bergere' in the Painted Desert Room of Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn. (See program). Upon returning to the LQ in New York, I was 'discovered' by Harold Arlen, Peter Brook, Truman Capote and Balanchine for the musical 'House of Flowers' in which I played Mamselle Honolulu who 'handled Oriental novelties divinely.' (Playbill enclosed). Next I was cast by Josh Logan for the Broadway play 'The World of Suzie Wong.' First, I was just one of the bar flowers, then my part got bigger as I created the role of Minnie Ho 'who forgot to ask for money;' so devoted was she to her trade. After two seasons in NYC I joined the National Tour which had the distinction of being the first legit Broadway show to play LV (Riviera). Indeed this was my pet role. On TV I played an 80-year old grandmother in a Kojak 2-hour special 'Chinatown Murders.' The LA Times Review singled me out. The challenge of playing this role was rewarding as Universal cast me as Dr. Grace Chang in the pilot of 'Doctors' Hospital' entitled 'One of Our Own.' (Review enclosed) On daytime TV you can occasionally catch me as Mrs. Lem of Lem's Restaurant in ABC's 'Ryan's Hope' which is in its ninth year. I'm still in show biz. Sincerely." [Items mentioned as enclosures are not present.]. Toy appeared on Broadway in House of Flowers (1954-1955) and The World of Suzie Wong (1958-1960) and in the film All That Jazz (1979). She has made many TV guest appearances, while appearing in night clubs from Paris to New York to Las Vegas. Fine condition.
