MARY PICKFORD
Stunning 11x14 signed photo of Pickford in Elizabethan gown
Photograph signed: "Cordially/Mary Pickford". B/w, 11x14. She is
shown here in a movie still from Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall
(1924). Mary Pickford (1892-1979), born Gladys Smith, appeared in 51 films
for D.W. Griffith in 1909 and 49 in 1910 -- while she was still a teenager!
Known as "America's Sweetheart", she was the first Hollywood superstar - and
millionaire (at age 24!). In 1919, she co-founded United Artists with
Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks (1883-1939) and D.W. Griffith; Pickford and
Chaplin later bought out their partners and sold UA in 1953 for an enormous
profit. Pickford and Fairbanks, who were married in 1920, separated in 1933 and
divorced in 1936. Pickford received two Academy Awards over her long career:
the 1928-1929 Best Actress Oscar for Coquette and a Lifetime Achievement
Oscar in 1975. Defects from original negative have reproduced at background.
Lightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
