MARY PICKFORD
She signs a typed letter to fellow actress Joan Crawford congratulating her on being named to Brandeis University's Board of Fellows.
TLS: "yours as ever/Mary", 1 page, 6½x9½. Beverly Hills, 1968 March 25. To actress Joan Crawford, New York City. In full: "It is a source of great regret that I will be unable to join the distinguished group on March twenty-eighth when Brandeis University is honoring you with a Fellowship. There is no one more deserving of this honor which is being bestowed upon you. I shall be with you in loving spirit and will hope that our paths cross again before too long a time." PICKFORD won the 1929-1930 Academy Award for Best Actress for Coquette. CRAWFORD won the 1946 Academy Award for Best Actress for Mildred Pierce. The Board of Fellows of Brandeis University consists of hundreds of nationally or professionally prominent people who lend their expertise and advice to Brandeis, serve on many Brandeis advisory boards, act as goodwill ambassadors, recruit for the University, raise funds and provide gifts to the University. When Crawford died in 1977, the officers of Brandeis University mourned the death of a "dedicated Fellow". Lightly creased. Paperclip impressions and light rust stains at upper margin. Pickford's return address, likely torn from the original envelope, stapled at lower right. Overall, fine condition.
