5½x1¼ affixed to a 5½x1¾. Best known as the author of the book Our
Village, Mary Russell Mitford (1787-1855) was a prolific
English author and dramatist. A successful writer in all genres, Mitford
earned most of her income from her prose, which was known for it's wit and
humor. She published 19 works of writing during her life, but despite her
high priced books and popularity, lived most of her life in poverty due to her
father's extravagant expenses. Although many of her other works have waned
in popularity since the 19th century, Our Village is still
considered a fine example of English literature. Ink notes (unknown hand) on
verso. Toned. Slightly soiled. Crease to right of center. Irregularly cut.
