The 1976 Sugar Bowl MVP signs a note on the back of a 4x6 photograph showing him as a young quarterback wearing his New England Patriots uniform.
Autograph Note signed: "To Bill Wood-/Best wishes,/Matt Cavanaugh", 1 page, 4x6, written on verso of a black and white photograph of Cavanaugh playing in a New England Patriots uniform. Quarterback and Coach Matt Cavanaugh was born on October 27, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio. He played quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh and started for the team in 1976 when they went undefeated and won the National Championship. He was selected as the MVP of the 1976 Sugar Bowl and MVP in the 1977 Gator Bowl. In the 1978 NFL Draft Cavanaugh was selected as the 50th overall pick by the New England Patriots. He played in the NFL from 1979 to 1991, playing in 112 games combined for the Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. His career passing statistics include 4332 yards for 28 touchdowns with a 52.7 completion percentage. Cavanaugh was the backup quarterback in Super Bowl XIX and Super Bowl XXV; he collected two rings in the process. After his playing career he coached from 1992 to present day (2011). He worked as an offensive coordinator or an assistant coach for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets. Fine condition.
