Photograph Signed: "[illegible] Manuguerra". B/w, 4x5¼. Matteo Manuguerra (1924-1998, born in Tunis, Tunisia) was a baritone who began training for a singing career late in life - around 35 - at the Buenos Aires Conservatory. He debuted in Mozart's Requiem, then settled in France in 1961. Manuguerra spent three years in the Opéra de Lyon, then made his Paris Opera debut in 1966 in Verdi's Rigoletto. After making many appearances in Europe, he debuted in Seattle in 1968 as Gérard in Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chénier. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1971 as Enrico in Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. Manuguerra sang until his death from a sudden heart attack in 1998.
