Carpenter (1824-1881) was Republican politician who served in the United States
Senate for Wisconsin from 1869 to 1875 and from 1879-1881. Originally a
member of the Democratic Party, Carpenter switched allegiances at the start of
the American Civil War. He served as President pro temper during the 43rd
Congress, and died while still in office. Irregularly cut. Toned. Creased
throughout. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
