Photograph signed: "Maureen O'Hara". B/w, 8x10. Irish Actress Maureen O'Hara's
(1920-2015) received a 7-year contract after a screen test with Charles Laughton. Her first
major role was in the 1939 Alfred Hitchcock film Jamaica Inn. Laughton, pleased with her
performance cast her opposite him as Esmerelda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939).
At the outset of World War II O'Hara's contract was sold to RKO studios which cast her in
low budget films until director John Ford cast her as theeldest daughter, Angharad Morgan,
in How Green Was My Valley (1941). In 1947 she played Natalie Wood's mother in
Miracle on 34th Street. She is often remembered for her on screen chemistry with John
Wayne. The two worked together on five films Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, The Wings of
Eagles, McLintock! and Big Jake. Some of her other roles include mother Maggie
McKendrick in The Parent Trap, Olivia Spencer in Spencer's Mountain and Peggy Hobbs in
Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. O'Hara has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was
inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1993. In 2004, she released her
autobiography 'Tis Herself, which became a New York Times Bestseller. In 2005 she was
named "Irish American of the Year" by Irish America magazine and was inducted into the
Irish American Hall of Fame in 2011. Unknown stains on verso. Fine condition.
