Eleven-page contract governing his employment as a supervising editor for Universal
Pictures. Under this contract, as extended, Pivar edited many well remembered movies,
including All Quiet on the Western Front, Dracula, Frankenstein and The Invisible Man.
Document signed: "Maurice Pivar", 11 pages, 8½x13. Also signed by "W. L. Stern",
Universal's business manager. Universal City, California, 1930 May 7. Pivar agrees to render
his services exclusively to Universal Pictures as cutting supervisor, and to perform such
additional editing and supervising duties as may be required. The contracts original duration
was for 6 months, but with options for extension by mutual agreement. Maurice Pivar
(1894-1982), born in Manchester, England, was a film editor, and occasional writer and
producer. His credits as screen editor include an impressive list of Hollywood films made
between 1921 and 1836, including All Quiet on the Western Front, Dracula,
Frankenstein, Murder in the Rue Morgue, Destry Rides Again and The Invisible Man.
This contract cemented Pivar's relationship with Universal Pictures. He worked exclusively
for Universal throughout his career. Left bottom corner creased through all pages. 3 horizontal
fold creases. Stained at center right edge on 1st page. 2 holes from hole punch and 2 fasteners
on top edge. Otherwise fine condition.
