MAURICE RICHARD
Maurice Richard inscribes an illustration of himself as a young boy and a
young man in blue ink.
Illustration inscribed and signed: "To Bill Wood/Good Luck/From/Maurice
Richard". Color, 6x7. Maurice Richard debuted for the Montreal Canadiens on
October 31, 1942. Over his 18-year career, he played the game of ice hockey
hard and at a skill level possessed by only those gifted few that can be called
legends. Richard became the first player in NHL history to score fifty markers
in as many contests. In the 1957-58 season, Richard became the first NHLer to
reach the 500-goal plateau. He was named to 14 consecutive NHL First/Second
All-Star teams and participated in 13 consecutive NHL All-Star contests. He
led the league in goal scoring five times, has netted 18 postseason game-winning
goals, and was awarded the Hart Trophy in 1947. Richard was elected to
Hockey's Hall of Fame in 1961. When he died in 2000, he was given a state
funeral in Canada. Mounting remnants on verso (no show through). Fine
condition.
