Rare black and white MGM publicity photograph of the heavyweight championship boxer turned actor.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Ed-/Best of luck pal/Your friend/Max Baer/1937 -". B/w, 8x10. Fighting from 1929 to 1941, Max Baer (1909-1959) won the heavyweight championship by knocking out Primo Carnera in 11 rounds on June 14, 1934. He lost the title to Jim Braddock in 15 rounds on June 13, 1935 in one of the greatest upsets in boxing history. Three months later, Joe Louis knocked him out in four rounds. Baer also starred in films, from The Prizefighter and the Lady (1933) to Utah Blaine (1957), and his son, Max Baer, Jr., became an actor best known for his role as Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies. Lightly creased, primarily at blank margins and background. Pencil note (unknown hand) and tape remnants on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
