THE ANDREWS SISTERS: MAXENE ANDREWS
She signs the cover of the playbill for the hit 1974 musical Over
Here!
Playbill Cover signed: "Maxene/Andrews", 5½x9. Maxene and Patty
Andrews are pictured on the cover. No place, no date on cover, but Over
Here! ran for 341 performances at the Shubert Theatre, New York City,
1974-1975. From 1937 through the 1940s the Andrews Sisters were queens of the
radio and juke box. Mostly remembered for their music, rich in sweetness and
optimism, the Andrews Sisters were loved by the many troops they tirelessly
entertained during WWII. Their upbeat songs, including their signature "Boogie
Woogie Bugle Boy", were perfect morale-builders. During their career, the
amazing trio of Patty (b. 1918), MAXENE (1916-1995) and LaVerne (1911-1967)
recorded more than 1,800 songs and sold over 90 million records. The musical
Over Here!, a nostalgic look at the home front during World War
II, was nominated for five Tonys, including Best Musical. Janie Sell won a Tony
as Best Featured Actress in a Musical. The surviving Andrews sisters, Patty and
Maxene, starred as the de Paul sisters, singing several songs including the
title song. Slightly soiled. Slightly frayed left edge. Otherwise, fine
condition.
