May Robson writes a letter thanking a friend for the letter that will be
added to her scrap book.
Autograph letter signed: "May Robson", 1p, 6¼x9½. Beverly Hills,
California, 1934 April 18. On her letterhead to Mr. Withero. In full:
"Many thanks for your letter & contribution to my scrap Book- It was
so kind of you to remember me Sincerely yours". Australian-born actress and
playwright May Robson (1858-1942) appeared in silent films from 1915,
but was at her best playing older women, usually crusty, warm hearted ones, in
films of the 1930s. She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in
Lady for a Day (1933). Other prominent roles included A Star is
Born (1937), Bringing up Baby (1938), Granny Get Your Gun
(1940) and Joan of Paris (1942, opening after her death). Folds not at
signature. Fine condition.
