1934

Australian-born actress and playwright May Robson (1858-1942) appeared
in silent films from 1915, but was at her best playing older women, usually
crusty, warm hearted ones, in films of the 1930s. She received an Oscar
nomination for Best Actress in Lady for a Day (1933). Other prominent
roles included A Star is Born (1937), Bringing up Baby (1938),
Granny Get Your Gun (1940) and Joan of Paris (1942, opening after
her death). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day,
pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many
celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman
presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen.
Goodman hoped his remarkable collection would remain in circulation, not
gather dust in a library file. Corners lightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
