Lindsay (1921-2000) was Mayor of New York City from 1966-1973.
Lindsay, who had previously served as a U.S. Congressman from New York
(1959-1965), received one delegate vote on the first ballot at the 1968
Republican National Convention. He became a Democrat in 1971 and ran a
short-lived campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. A veteran
of WWII, Lindsay had practiced law before entering politics. Margins at top and
sides have been trimmed unevenly. Slightly creased at margins and corners. Minor
surface creases and impressions (most not evident head on). Clipped logo from
Mayors letterhead taped to lower left corner. Adhesive residue and stains at
lower margin.
