Typed Letter signed: "John V. Lindsay", 1 page, 8¼x10½. New York City, New York, 1968 June 14. On letterhead of The City of New York, Office of the Mayor and addressed to Mr. Martin R. Federman, Bellerose, New York. In full: "Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness in writing. I have autographed the enclosed magazine cover as you requested. It is being returned to you with my best wishes. Sincerely," John Vliet Lindsay (1921-2000) was Mayor of New York City from 1966-1973. Lindsay, who had previously served as a U.S. Congressman from New York (1959-1965), received one delegate vote on the first ballot at the 1968 Republican National Convention. He became a Democrat in 1971 and ran a short-lived campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. A veteran of WWII, Lindsay had practiced law before entering politics. Normal mailing fold. Slightly creased. otherwise, fine condition.
