Mayor John Lindsay responds to constituent's letter regarding a
situation with the Library
Typed Letter Signed: "John V. Lindsay" as Mayor of New York
City, 1p, 5½x8. New York, New York, 1970 November 19. On letterhead
of City of New York, Office of the Mayor. To: Mr. Michael Scocozzo, Brooklyn,
New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Scocozzo, The matter mentioned in your
recent letter is handled for the City by the Brooklyn Public Library. I have
asked that office to give your letter their immediate attention and to contact
your directly on it. Thank you for taking the time to write. Sincerely,"
John Vliet Lindsay (1921-2000) was Mayor of New York City from
1966-1973. Lindsay, who had previously served as a U.S. Congressman from New
York (1959-1965), received one delegate vote on the first ballot at the 1968
Republican National Convention. He became a Democrat in 1971 and ran a
short-lived campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. A veteran
of WWII, Lindsay had practiced law before entering politics. Normal mailing
