Typed Letter Signed: "John V Lindsay" as Mayor of New York City, 1p, 5¼x8¼. New York, N.Y., 1972 December 19. On embossed The City of New York, Office of the Mayor letterhead to Mr. Eugene Miller, Senior Vice President, New York Stock Exchange, Inc., New York, New York. In full: "Many thanks for sending on copies of Mr. Needham's training center announcement and Professor Robbins' address. Be sure I'll read both with interest. With best wishes. Sincerely". John Vliet Lindsay (1921-2000) was Mayor of New York City from 1966-1973. Lindsay, who had previously served as a U.S. Congressman from New York (1959-1965), received one delegate vote on the first ballot at the 1968 Republican National Convention. He became a Democrat in 1971 and ran a short-lived campaign for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. A veteran of WWII, Lindsay had practiced law before entering politics. Slightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold nicks the upper loop of the "L". Receipt stamp on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
