Typed Letter signed: "Tom Bradley", in blue ink, as Mayor of Los Angeles, 1 page, 8½x11. City Hall, Los Angeles. July 17, 1974.In full: "Dear Mr. Tobin: Thank you for your recent letter. I am always glad to hear from Wisconsin constituents. I am pleased that you have asked that I be included in your photo collection. As requested, I am enclosing an autographed photo [item not included]. Best wishes. Sincerely". Tom Bradley (1917-1998), Los Angeles' first Black City Councilman, was the first black politician to serve as Mayor of a predominantly white city. Mayor of Los Angeles for an unprecedented five terms (1973-1993), his administration was noted for opening up city government to minorities and women. Binding holes on right margin. Lightly toned.
