McHALE'S NAVY TV CAST: ERNEST BORGNINE, TIM CONWAY and CARL BALLANTINE
Shown in cast photo with 7 other crew members, standing and sitting by their boat
Photograph signed: "Ernest/Borgnine", "Tim Conway", Carl Ballantine". B/w, 10x8. McHale's Navy ran on ABC from 1962 to 1966. The TV show was set on a South Pacific Island for its first three seasons and in Italy for its final year. ERNEST BORGNINE (1917-2012), who won the 1955 Academy Award for Best Actor for the title role in Marty, played the eponymous Lt. Commander Quinton McHale. Borgnine, who was a real naval veteran of World War II, went on to co-star on Airwolf and, at age 92, won an Emmy for an appearance on ER. TIM CONWAY (1933-2019) played Ensign Charles Parker. Conway, whose own TV series were short lived, inspiring his license plate ("13 Weeks"). Aside from the role shown here, he may be best remembered as a member of the ensemble cast of The Carol Burnett Show,  frequently breaking up those other veteran comics with his impromptu quips.  CARL BALLANTINE (1917-1919) played Torpedo man Lester Gruber. He is perhaps even better remembered as the incompetent stage musician "the Amazing Ballantine" seen in many films and TV episodes. McHale's Navy was nominated for five Emmy Awards, with acting nominations for Borgnine and Conway in 1963. Fine condition.
