servant/McKean Buchanan", 4x1¾. McKean Buchanan (1823-1872) was a
prominent stage actor known for his Shakespearean roles. Prints of
Buchanan as Hamlet and Macbeth were popular. He toured widely with his
company, at a time when even small US towns welcomed stage performances of
Shakespeare. His daughter, Virginia Buchanan, who learned her skills
in supporting Shakespeare roles like Desdemona and Ophelia and went on to become
a prominent stage actress in her own right. The actor was no known relation to
Union Civil War naval officer McKean Buchanan. Irregularly cut at edges.
