MEL ALLEN
Signature from the iconic "Voice of the Yankees" on a 4¼x2 card.
Signature: "Mel Allen", 4½x2 card affixed to 5x3¾ sheet. Allen, who died in 1996 at age 83, began as a sports announcing career covering University of Alabama football in 1935. The long-time "Voice of the Yankees" (1939-1964), he also narrated TV's "This Week in Baseball" into the 1980s. He immortalized the baseball expression, "That ball is going, going, gone!" Allen and fellow announcer Red Barber were the first broadcasters enshrined in baseball's Hall of Fame (1978). Irregularly cut, with light mounting stains. Larger sheet is rippled from adhesive attaching unrelated newspaper clipping to other side.
