MEL BLANC
3¾x7 color publicity printed image of Mel Blanc seated at his desk surrounded by many of the cartoon characters whose voices he created.
Printed Photograph inscribed and signed in ink: "Hi Evan/Mel Blanc/9-5-78". Color, 3¾x7 overall, image 3¾x4½ (one surface). On magazine stock paper. Printed sentiment above Blanc's signature: "Eh! What's up Doc?/Love from 'Bugs Bunny.'" Captioned beneath signature: "...and all the other voices of/Mel Blanc." Blanc is seated at his desk surrounded by many of the cartoon characters whose voices he created including: Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, Road Runner, Taz, and Barney Rubble. In 1937, Mel Blanc (1908-1989) was hired to provide the voice for a drunken bull in the Warner Bros. Looney Tune, Picador Porky. He also did the voice of Porky ("Th-th-th-that's all, Folks") Pig, previously voiced by a genuine stammerer who knew nothing about comic timing. Before long, Blanc created the voice of Daffy Duck, whose lisping cadence was inspired by Warner Bros. cartoon boss Leon Schlesinger. In 1940, Blanc created the insouciant, carrot-chopping Bugs Bunny. Ironically, Blanc was allergic to carrots. He freelanced with MGM and Walter Lantz animation firms, creating the Woody Woodpecker's laugh for Lantz. Blanc signed to work exclusively at Warners in the early 1940s. Voices he created include Sylvester, Tweety Pie, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, Pepe Le Pew and Yosemite Sam. Fine condition.
