(and third) wife to entertainer Hildegarde
Inscribed signature: "Fran and Mel Ferrer - to Hildie - je t'adore (that's
French)" in blue ink. With notations in black ink on verso in unknown hand.
9¼x1½, irregularly cut. Cut from the guest book of entertainer Hildegarde.
Ferrer, who spoke fluent French, had divorced his first wife, the former Francis
Pilchard, to marry Barbara Tripp, with whom he had two children. He then
divorced Tripp to remarry Pilchard, with whom he also had two chilcren,
divorcing her again to marry actress Audrey Hepburn. Ferrer
(1917-2008, born Elberon, New Jersey) was an American actor, director and
producer. Ferrer worked in summer stock from the age of 15 and became a chorus
dancer on Broadway in 1938 before making his film debut in 1947's The
Fugitive (he had directed his first film, Girl of the
Limberlost, two years earlier). Ferrer, whose film credits
include Lili (1953), War and Peace (1956), The Sun Also
Rises (1957), The World, the Flesh and the Devil (1959), The
Longest Day (1962), Sex and the Single Girl (1964), El Greco
(1966) and Brannigan (1975), also appeared in made-for-TV movies and
miniseries, and he made guest starring appearances on a number of TV
series. Ferrer is best known to TV audiences for his recurring role as
Phillip Erikson (1981-1984) on Falcon Crest. He also directed both
TV series and feature films, produced several films and made-for-TV
movies, and was a writer. Ferrer was married to actress Audrey
Hepburn (1954-1968); the couple had one son, Sean H. Ferrer. Ink has
slightly spread (all writing completely legible). Lightly toned and soiled.
Signature has bled slightly. Minor show-through of writing on verso. Irregular
edges. Right edge has been torn neatly from guest book. Otherwise in fine
condition.
